Yesterday, a few friends and I went to New Orleans to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of my good friend Laura. She is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, sweet and REAL friends I have ever known. She has lots of friends because she IS a great friend. We left early and got there around 2 pm. We checked in and we headed straight to The Acme Oyster House. YUM!! We found ourselves on Bourbon Street and made our way in to a bar that had a dance floor and 3 for 1's! 5 hours later, many songs sang and loads of dances danced we left and got something else to eat. (It's what you do in New Orleans!!) We had a member of our party that needed to get back to the hotel so we all walked her back and when we got to our room, we heard this loud music coming through the door. We tried our keys and they didn't work. We double checked our room number and finally knocked on the door. We were greeted at the door by this woman who looked very surprised. We found out that they had checked both of us in to the same room.
She was with a big party and thought that our stuff might belong to someone in her party. Thankfully, she was great. She was very apologetic and very honest. We had all of our things in our room and she didn't touch a thing. She was with a hair show and she told us that she was just glad that it was her and not some of the other people in her group. After seeing some of them in the lobby...we were too. Anyway, we made a new friend, she moved to another room and we were off again. I came to the gross realization that I must really be getting old because the second trip out wasn't nearly as much fun. I saw too many nasty girls...way too many children( in the Quarter at midnight--what the heck!) and too many drunks. I think our 'Happy Hour' was really during happy hour. Note to self: avoid the Bourbon Street after midnight. We ended up getting a free night to use on our next trip to N.O. for the room debacle so everything turned out all right.
On to the next meal...MOTHERS(click here for a piece of real New Orleans history) for breakfast ROCKS!!! I haven't been there since before Katrina and oh my, was it good! I had a Shrimp Creole Omelet, grits and their famous home made biscuits. I even brought Mike back some biscuits and the ham & sausage they are known for. It was HEAVEN and a perfect way to top the weekend off.
I drove and I must admit that I am a terrible driver. I don't think I knew how bad until I had them all in the car. No one got sick and we all made it but the next time I think I will let someone else drive. M, L, L & Q---Do you all feel just a little bit safer now? :)
Last to mention, but certainly not least...I left Mike with Landry for the first time overnight. It is the most time he has ever spent with her and was solely responsible for her care for 30 hours. Straight! Thankfully, she was very good for him and he seemed to handle it with no problem. The best part about it was that huge smile I got when she saw me for the first time. It was like magic....big, sweet, sincere and full of love. If I could sell that smile, I'd be rich. Oh, I guess I could also mention that he said he had a much greater appreciation for me and all that I do in a day. Woo-hooo! Mission accomplished.

The last/first/only time I have ever been to N.O. it was when I was down there working in the 911 center to give the dispatchers a break after Katrina... I loved looking at your pictures and actually seeing "life" there! I would love to go back one day... glad to know that it still has it's fun and glory!
I left Chayse with Nathan for 36 hours about 2 weeks ago for my yearly girls weekend beach trip. I did not stay the whole weekend (just one night) and when I got back, I told Nathan it was weird going placed without her... he said it was weird going everywhere with her!! Glad Mike got the chance to have some one on one time with his sweet little girl.
