15*
Something happened on our trip to Florida that kind of hurt my heart. As I was taking all of the pictures and setting up the camera for the big group photo we all made comments on how many people we have added to our family since our last reunion just 2.5 years ago. I was pregnant with Sophie then and it was at that reunion that I shared the happy news with my family. I gave my Daddy a small album with some of my wedding pictures in it and the very last photo was a picture of my first sonogram. He was so surprised and happy for us. It was a magical time having just been married and immediately getting pregnant. Anyway, as the conversations kept on going about how many grandchildren there were, almost everyone that counted forgot my little angel Sophie. I know it wasn't intentional and certainly not meant to be hurtful in any way but it stung. It was like the number of grandchildren accounted for had an asterisk by it. I know that out of sight is out of mind and that no one really got to know and love her like Mike and I did but she was real and she was very much loved. I hope that if I ever encounter a situation anything similar to this that I will ALWAYS take time to acknowledge and remember a lost loved one. My firstborn will never be forgotten...at least not by her Mama.

I have to say this is the hardest of all pills to swallow... and the questions are always so innocent but cut so deep... is this your first child? is she the only grandchild? do you have others? I am not even going to attempt to say something clever or wise... all I will say is I am with you on this one. All the way.

I am sorry this hurt you - I did not notice this particular counting. I was aware of us counting who was there and specifically the number of kids we had to keep track of.

I hope you know that we all feel for you and Mike's loss. I am also aware we can never understand how deep this loss is - please know we love you both very much and include Sophie in our hearts when we think of your family.

love you!
